What we need for a healthy, beautiful, glowing skin we all know the dos and don’ts. We’ve heard one too many times the importance of good sleep, physical exercise and good eating habits. Green leafy vegetables and plenty of fruits should be a part of daily diet. But what about those who don’t like the taste or don’t have the time to slice and eat the fruits? It is no surprise that fruits are effective natural supplements for enhancing one’s beauty, by ingestion or even topical application. Not just fruits, certain vegetables too can be applied to treat certain ailments or for overall good health.
Oranges
Take extracts from half an orange and add two spoons of curd. Make a paste and apply this mixture on your face. Leave it on for 15 minutes and then wash it off. This pack is effective to treat pigmentation. Crushed orange rind powder is also an alternative to the actual orange fruit, if unavailable when required or if it is out of season.
To two spoons of orange juice, add half spoon of lemon juice and egg yolk. Make a mixture and apply it all over the face Keep it for half an hour, and then wash it off. The lemon juice may be eliminated from this pack. To one spoon of orange rind powder add I spoon of honey and half a spoon of lemon juice. Mix the constituents, and leave the mixture on your face for ten minutes before washing off.

Papayas
Half a cup of papaya extract, half a spoon of lemon juice and one spoon of rice flour can be mixed and used as a face-pack. Crushed papaya extract can be used on its own too. There is no need to add anything else to help treat pigmentation, pimple marks, freckles, etc. this pack is equally effective for all skin types. It also works wonders on cracked heels and dark circles.

Apples
Half an apple, crushed properly, mixed with one spoon of lemon juice is also known to be beneficial for the skin. One can also use a mixture of apple extract and honey as a face pack. Apple extract, lemon juice, 2 spoons of cream can be mixed and left on the face for ten minutes. Wash it off first with lukewarm water, followed by cold water for fresh looking beautiful skin.

Tomatoes
Tomatoes mixed with fuller’s earth are an effective treatment for sun tan. Tomato juice made without the addition of water can be mixed with one spoon of gram flour is also a good measure. Similarly, tomato juice mixed with curd can be used to attain good skin texture. Applying only tomatoes to the face, neck and hands and washed after ten minutes goes a long way in reversing sun tan.

Cucumbers
A paste made of a mixture of cucumbers and coconut is a good source of beautiful skin. One can also mix cucumber with equal quantities of mint extract. Cucumbers too are good for removing tan from hands, face and neck when applied solely.

Tender coconuts
The inner cream from a tender coconut can be made into a paste, mixed with lemon and cucumber juice for fresh glowing skin. Tender coconut water when used for washing the face after coming home from the sun helps in cooling the skin and preventing the after effects of the harsh sun. With the increased heat, dipping a soft cloth in the water from a tender coconut and placing it on the face helps the skin to breath.

Watermelons
Crushed watermelon extract when applied to the entire face, neck and hands especially after sun prevents sun tan. A few drops of lemon juice can also be added to make the pack more effective. A mixture of fuller’s earth watermelon and cucumber extract is another great way to beat the heat, when used as a face pack.

Bananas
Half a banana, one spoon honey and two spoons of cream can be mixed and left on face for ten minutes. Fresh un-boiled milk and crushed bananas can be mixed and used as a face pack for soft and smooth skin.

Guavas

They can be mixed with honey and the pack now formed can be left on the face for twenty minutes before washing off for beautiful skin.

Mangoes

Plain mango pulp or the pulp mixed with cream can be used as a face pack for supple skin.

Crushed and mixed with fresh cram help to bring instant freshness to the face.

Peaches

Peach extract mixed with half a spoon of glycerin is supposed to be good for the skin.

All these fruits and vegetables are fairly easily available and easy to be made into face packs with amazing results at minimum costs. At the same time, one needs to be cautious when using fresh fruit/vegetable face packs. As far as possible, one must ideally use fresh constituents only and not tinned/canned, as they have their own added preservatives. For at least 2-3 hours after the use of these packs one must not use any kind of make up or soap products for effective benefits. One must consume the pack immediately after it’s made, as the contents might rot over time and have detrimental effects if used. After application, one must remain peaceful and relaxed with no laughing or talking, before washing off with cold water, or lukewarm water if specified.
